“South Pasadena’s Hispanic History and Heritage and How These Have Influenced Local Architecture and Art.”
“WISPPA’s monthly meeting day and Cinco de Mayo, Saturday 5/5/18, happen to coincide this year. Taking this into consideration, the organization planned the 5/5/18 program to celebrate the Cinco de Mayo holiday. Our program topic will be, “South Pasadena’s Hispanic History and Heritage and How These Have Influenced Local Architecture and Art.” WISPPA is delighted that our speakers will be John Lesak, a well-known local architect who has served our city as both a member of the “Cultural Heritage Commission,” and who currently serves on the “Planning Commission,” and Jolino Beserra, or, “Jolino,” widely known muralist, whose works South Pasadena has commissioned and installed in the South Pasadena Library. After the meeting adjourns on that day, audience members will be welcome to visit the library, immediately next door to WISPPA’s new meeting location at the South Pasadena Senior Center “great room,” 1102 Oxley Street in South Pasadena, to view Jolino’s murals.
There will be a social half hour with food and drink from 8:30 to 9AM. On 5/5/18 in keeping with our celebration of Cinco de Mayo, WISPPA will provide pastries from La Monarca to eat with coffee and tea. To add to the celebration, South Pasadena High School jazz musicians will coming to play for us: baritone, saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, bass, drums, guitar and piano (portable piano-keyboard)!
The meeting will be called to order at 9AM, at which time a brief business meeting will be held. After this our speakers will present, and there will be a short “Q and A” session , moderated by Judith Harris, WISPPA Secretary, following the speakers’ presentations. The meeting will be adjourned at approximately 10:30PM.
All are welcome !!!
